We had a lovely relaxing weekend for my 50th birthday with our 4 terriers. The lodge was perfect, roomy but really cozy in the cold weather. The hot tub was fabulously warm in the frosty night air and having a safe secure garden for the dogs to roam in while we relaxed was brilliant. Will be great to come back in the warmer weather to explore the local area more.

Fantastic stay with our Vizsla and Black Lab, l couldn't recommend the lodges enough in regards to location, cleanliness and hospitality the lodges offer. Exceptional welcome bread and marmalade upon arrival was a nice touch, the only thing l couldn't lay my hands on was a bread knife.

Had a fantastic stay. Really relaxing holiday. Lodge was spotless and comfortable. Only issues found were toilet seat fitted very badly and i pinched my leg on it. Like to sweep floor before leaving but no broom available only hoover which didnt work very well on lino. Have already recommended to friends and will be booking again ourselves.

Our first time in Cherry after previously staying in Blackberry and Damson, we needed the bigger lodge as we brought extra family after telling them how fantastic the lodges are and how much we love North Devon. Cherry lodge lived up to the high standard of the others along with being roomier to accommodate the extra adults. The lodges are everything you could ask for and more, fresh home made bread and jam are brought to your door by Peter who welcomes you and answers any queries. Even the weather was good!! We've booked for next year, can't wait!!

Our second stay in blackberry lodge, this time we stayed for a week rather than 4 nights to take full advantage of this amazing place. Our only point after the last time (and it was minor), that it would be great to have dog gate into the meadow from the decking... this time it was there. It was brilliant - thank you for putting that in. There really are no negatives. This is a fantastic place for a relaxing break away. Peter is so welcoming- even a doggie treat on arrival and the bread and jam treat for the humans! This is an amazing base to explore the local area. We had Tesco delivery right to the lodge so there was no need to get in the car for anything! The trail is 5 mins thru the lane which leads to miles upon miles of fantastic walking. We walked into Barnstaple ( dog friendly), then next day to instow which is just perfect, the beach is fab and a few very dog friendly pubs. Can highly recommend a Sunday stroll along the beach followed by Sunday lunch at instow arms, it doesn't get any better.... until you arrive back at the beautiful lodge & the hot tub!! Depending on the tide, the little boat over to appledore is a real treat. We really can't imagine finding anywhere to stay that is so well cared for, clean, dog friendly in such an amazing location ... just perfect !

Absolutely loved staying in the Cherry Lodge... nothing was too much trouble and no expense had been spared even down to the utensils and pans. Even our dog had a little welcome treat on arrival. Completely spotless and modern but with enough home comforts to make the stay amazing. The hot tub was a big hit especially with the kids and the homemade bread and jam on arrival was fantastic. I would thoroughly recommend staying here and would also say to give Lawrence a visit in the micro-brewery.. brilliant tour from the very entertaining and factful Brewer. Already looking at dates to book again.

Perfect hideaway for the weekend, hot-tub was very secluded from the other lodges and everything we could have needed was provided. Very clean and a lovely, quiet spot to relax for a weekend. The owners even took the trouble to email us when a pillow was left behind by one of our party. Will definitely be going back in the future.

Had an amazing time with my mother and my 4 dogs. Blackberry Lodge was extremely clean, comfortable and a lovely place to stay, the hot tub was especially nice to relax in after a day out exploring and walking. The bread and jam to welcome us was lovely and Peter was very friendly and helpful. We visited Westward Ho, Saunton Sands and Instow beaches. Westward Ho was a little busy but as we walked it got quieter, it was a nice beach and the dogs loved exploring the rock pools. Saunton Sands was our favourite and we visited twice, even on a sunny Sunday it was quiet and peaceful with miles of sand to walk and enjoy (Need to put in Saunton Sands Beach Hut in Sat Nav to find it, also you pay to park). On our first day we left the cottage and walked the Tarka Trail to Instow Beach, it was a lovely walk and the dogs got to cool off in the sea on arriving at Instow beach. The beach was busy but up by the water edge was quiet. We had a lovely lunch in the Waterfront Inn after visiting Westward Ho beach and in the Instow Arms after spending time on Instow beach. Both dog friendly with gardens, excellent food with great service. We also had a morning out at Broomhill Sculptured Gardens which is dog friendly and we had a lovely time walking through the gardens looking at all the different sculptures puzzling over and wondering about them. We then had a lovely cuppa and brownie sat outside in the sunshine. Great value for money and would defiantly recommended a visit. There were other things that we did not get chance to see or explore and we had such a great time that we booked to go back next year (2018) before we had even left. Thank You Peter for allowing us to visit your lodges.

We have just got back from a weeks stay in the Damson Lodge, my husband, dog Archie and myself. The lodge was just perfect very modern, loads of room with everything we needed for our stay. The bed was huge and so comfortable that leaving it was very hard. The hot tub was amazing after a day walking just to sit and chill, drink in hand. The gate that leads to the orchard of the decking was brill and Archie loved running around. The lodge is in a perfect place for visiting loads of places. We walked the Tarka trail to Instow along the beach and one day ate in the pub, lovely and dog friendly and ate in Johns cafe also dog friendly. We loved this place and is a great walk. We also walked the other way in to Fremington and had a cake and coffee in the Quay Cafe, the only down side was that dogs are not allowed inside, but would go again as they really do make the best cakes i have ever tasted. We visited Saunton Sands fantastic walk along the dog friendly beach and back along the sand dunes again we loved this place, we followed this to Woolacombe and walked the beach all in the same day and another beautiful dog friendly beach. Another day we visited Westward Ho but due to high winds the beach was closed. Loads of places to visit and we did not cover half of them as the weather was not on our side. On arrival at the lodge we were welcomed by Peter who himself was just off on holiday and gave us some nice warm bread and homemade jam and it was amazing. We also had our shopping delivered from asda, which is a 15 min drive down the road. The fish and chip shop is a must best i have had. Thank you for an amazing holiday and we will be returning.

The cottage was lovely and very well maintained. The access to the meadow area was a little tricky as you had to squeeze through the fence's horizontal rails to get through one you opened the gate. Fine for the dogs to get through but not so good for people. Would be much better just to have a normally opening that you could just walk through. Peter Sorry we forgot to point out gate at the side of the lodge for humans.

My family which consisted of two children aged 7 and 9, three dogs and my partner all had a fantastic bank holiday weekend at Damson Lodge. The lodge was really beautiful, with a great hot tub and garden area, with plenty of space for the children and dogs to explore. The bread and jam on arrival was truly delicious and Peter the owner was very kind and helpful. The area is great for dog walks along the tarka trail, with lovely beaches for the kids and dogs to run around on. We stayed at Orchard Lodges (Blackberry Lodge) for 4 nights for our mini-moon after getting married last Saturday and we had a fantastic time. The Lodge itself was very clean and spacious and had the added benefit of a lovely decking area with hot tub. We took our miniature Dachshund away with us and I can safely say he had a fantastic time. The lodges are situated a very close walk to the Tarka Trail which we took full advantage of by walking to the nearby Instow beach - it was a very pleasant 35min walk with lovely scenery and a fab beach at the end. We also took day trips to Saunton and Clovelly which were also lovely. Overall we had a great, relaxing stay which is just what we needed after our wedding. Thank you

A lovely week spent in the dog friendly Damson lodge , greeted by Peter with fresh homemade bread and plum jam. A lovely clean well equipped lodge with the added bonus of a hot tub. The only reason we marked the location as a 4 not a 5 is Saunton Sands is our favourite beach and we were spoiled last year by staying right on the beach. We had an amazing holiday in the Cherry Lodge. The Lodge itself was beautiful and spacious and perfect for us as a party of 6. Our 4 teenage girls had 2 bedrooms with jack and Jill bathroom in the middle and myself and my husband had the huge room with ensuite at the other end of the Lodge which worked perfectly for us all. Everything was spotless and everything needed for self catering was there, even washing machine and dishwasher! The decking with BBQ and hot tub were peaceful and private with a lovely enclosed area of meadow for our 2 dogs. On arrival we were greeted with homemade bread and jam and not long after our shopping delivery arrived. Peter was lovely and welcoming and told us about dog friendly pubs and beaches which I have to say we're all brilliant and having never been on holiday with our dogs before we were surprised how the whole area was so dog friendly. All in all, absolutely 5 star from start to finish and would recommend Orchard Lodges to all. Thanks again Peter, will be in touch to come back!

Paul and I had a lovely stay in the Damson lodge. I did an online shop a few days before which got delivered straight to the lodge, and the kitchen had all the utensils and crockery we needed. My only suggestion would be perhaps to include some plastic glasses for the hot tub and outdoor decking just in case of any accidents (not that I had any as I was extra careful) The supply of a gas BBQ made me re-think my shopping order to include some burgers and sausages as our first day was a lovely warm one! The lodge was very well insulated, and the sofas were very comfortable, as was the bed. Lovely shower too. Wi-fi signal was great. We both loved the homemade loaf of bread provided. The location was so close to beaches (Instow, Saunton, Woolacombe) and other villages/towns such as Bideford & Barnstaple. We loved that the Tarka trail was right on our doorstep with a short walk to Instow. We will be recommending Orchard Lodges to our friends.

Really pleased we found Orchard Lodges. Cherry Lodge was everything that we could have asked for. Spacious, comfortable and clean. It's perfect if you are a large family group or holidaying with several friends. You can enjoy a family BBQ gathered on the deck combined with a splash in the hot tub. However, if you are a couple looking for a peaceful place to stay where you can lounge in the sun or relax with a good book, then Orchard Lodges fits this bill too (that's us!). It's a great place for the family dog with its secure private grassy dog area accessed via a small rustic gate from the deck. The large dog friendly beach at Instow is of fine sand and there are dog friendly places to eat nearby. Our dog Jay enjoyed her walk along the Tarka trail to Instow. Don't forget your cycle as the 5ft wide tarmac Tarka trail provides a family cycle and pedestrian safe ride or walk. We found the Lodges to be perfectly located if you wish to visit surrounding tourist spots. However we found everything we needed close at hand. We hope to visit again soon.Oh! Do say hello to Lawrence at the Tarka Ale micro brewery! Sue+Dave & Jay. :o)

We really enjoyed our stay although the weather could have been a little kinder for our stay . The one thing that was a little bit of a downer was the meadow grass field that came with the cottage as it was so long and overgrown our poor little dogs could t really use it very easily. However the area was about to Be trimmed as we were leaving . To Be honest there is nothing else to report the lodge is lovely and just as described on the tin . The beach at instow was great for the dogs and much nicer than perhaps we were expecting .

We have just spent 7 nights in Damson lodge, beautiful and clean and very roomy. Used the jacuzzi and the BBQ. Dogs loved it, having very well behaved dogs Peter gave us permission to leave the dogs in the lodge unattended (all furniture was covered with throws) so that we could pop out on our own and so they could have a rest, all the walking and sea air made them very tired pooches. Contemplating on a return next year but maybe Cherry lodge as we will have another little one with us and will need the extra room. Thanks Peter for such lovely accommodation. Hope to see you next year.

We delayed our usual UK May holiday until June, hoping that the weather would be more reliable. Unfortunately it rained for five days out of seven and was often chilly, with very strong winds. This made us all the more grateful for being in cosy, warm Blackberry Lodge and having use of the excellent hot tub, which was set at the perfect temperature! We thoroughly enjoyed watching the greater horseshoe(?) bats fly over the garden on their late evening hunt. Peter was very friendly and welcoming, and the homemade bread he provided on the day of our arrival was delicious and the orange marmalade the best I've tasted. As noted by other reviewers, the lodge was very well equipped, furnished to a high standard and extremely comfortable. We walked to Instow via the Tarka trail on one of the dryer evenings and would highly recommend The Boathouse for dinner. A most enjoyable break, in spite of the weather!

We will be booking again as it was so good. See you next year Peter for a glass of red.

We found both the location and the lodge to be perfect for our holiday stay. Only a short trip to get provisions And loved our fresh bread and jam. . We were able to relax just sitting on the patio or enjoy the walks and then rest up easing the pains in the warm hot tub.the lodge was kitted out to a excellent standard very home from home. Peter was always helpful in suggesting places to visit and always on hand but never intrusive. Our 2 German Shepherds loved Instow beech and the fenced in area a plus. Highly recommended for both two and four legs. Thank you Peter & Jayne from The Higham's

Another fantastic week at Damson Lodge, sun shone most days, hot tub was divine. This is our third stay at the Lodge and booked in for Christmas. A warm welcome always awaits you with fresh homemade bread and jam and on this occasion a large box of chocolates and a bottle of fizz to help us celebrate hubbys big birthday and our wedding anniversary the lodge is always warm and impeccably clean. Very modern and a kitchen that has very upmarket accessories, every utensil, pots pans you could ever need. Molly our beagle loved sniffing around in her own private enclosed meadow which was such a bonus for us to be able to sit and relax having a BBQ and using hot tub while she mooched about in safety. Peter is always on hand should you need anything and has a wealth of knowledge of the surrounding area. Great week and looking forward to returning again at the end of the year. Blackberry lodge had everything you would need in holiday accommodation,it was very clean and modern. The hot tube was a huge hit for my teenage daughter and it really was luxury for us all to enjoy. I especially liked that Peter has now fenced off the area outside the lodge so it also had its own little orchard for the dogs to enjoy. The location of the lodges is perfect, close to local amenities, but down a quiet farm track and you are on the Tarka Trail with miles of adventures for walkers, dog walkers and cyclists! "Perfect place to relax and dog walk"
These beautifully appointed lodges were equipped with every thing you could need and were immaculately clean. We chose a two bedroom lodge which was very spacious and comfortable and came with hot tub, barbeque. dishwasher, washing machine, fridge, freezer, microwave.... I could go on but I think you get the picture. In addition we were greeted with a home made loaf and marmalade and a warm welcome. Instow beach, which is about a mile or so away, offers a fantastic dog walking area and the farm has a gate straight on to the delightful Tarka trail which is the longest traffic free trail in England and ideal for walking or cycling, [over 100 miles in total I believe]. No lodge is over looked and most have an enclosed "mini" paddock for the dogs. The en suite bathrooms are well designed, one had bath with shower over the other had a walk in shower, both had plenty of hot water and the gas central heating kept us snug despite the cold wet March weather.

This is our second time staying here - the first time was last march (2016) when we got engaged this time was for our honeymoon! The accommodation is lovely - it's clean and airy and has plenty of space! The hot tub is such a treat too! It's such a nice touch that Peter and Jayne go to the trouble of making fresh bread and jam for our arrival and this time because it was our honeymoon we added the romantic package when we booked and we arrived to red roses, chocolates and champagne! Last year we took our two dogs and they throughly enjoyed - there in a small garden space outside for the dogs to wonder around and plenty of dog friendly beaches to take them too! We will definitely be going back next year and taking our dog with us! I can't recommend this place enough

The boathouse in instow is well worth a visit we had a lovely meal there, we used the local bus so we could both have a drink, just down the road from our lodge. Barnstaple town centre definitely worth a visit, we had an excellent lunch at 'cafe collective' in bideford amazing food an very accommodating with our baby, also dog friendly. Despite the mixed weather we had a wonderful long weekend. Given your perfect location, we made the most of the Tarka Trail in the mornings and enjoyed relaxing in the cottage in the afternoon/evenings. Damson Lodge was just the right size for us, nice and warm (we didn't even need to put the heating on), lovely and clean and very well equipped which made for a very comfortable stay. The bread you baked for us was delicious and we are also still enjoying your lovely marmalade! We would love to return and have already looked at availability for another stay with you, but given your obvious success and popularity for repeat visitors there's very limited availability, if any, over the next 6 months so we may have to consider a repeat visit in September/October rather than wait until 2018. In the meantime I've already recommended your accommodation to a work colleague and her family.

We have just returned from a 3 night stay in blackberry lodge. I honestly can not fault this place at all, we drove up to our private parking area for the lodge and when we went in it was so nice and cosy as peter already had the heating on for us and the hot tub was also on. The lodge is most definitely first class, all appliances, furniture and even flooring is top quality. After we unpacked and went out for a while we returned back to freshly made bread and marmalade and it was very yummy. We had a private decking area where the hot tub was situated and you are not overlooked by any other lodge and there was even a BBQ and outdoor furniture on the becking too. There is nothing I can say negative about the lodge or its location. It really is excellent, we had our dog with us and it was just a short walk to the trail which is great to walk on as it's all Tarmac. We will definitely be booking up again soon, thank you peter for everything, we had a fantastic break and I will definitely be recommending orchard lodges to anyone with or without dogs who is looking for first class accommodation

We stayed at the Lodges during a rather bleak week (weather wise) in February. Cherry Lodge was immaculately clean and very cosy. The enormous bed was super comfy. Despite the weather we braced the hot tub most days and really enjoyed it. It was very private so no worries on that front. All in all a lovely stay. The only down side for us was that the immediate area where the lodges are based is not very attractive and you have to drive to prettier parts. That said you really don't have to drive very far.

Returning this year, Myself and Partner stayed in Blackberry Lodge whilst staying at Orchard Lodges for a romantic weekend away for her 22nd birthday. As soon as we arrived, we felt welcomed by Peter, who was very friendly as always. Once we stepped through the door of the lodge, we felt at home. The hot tub was nothing other than awesome and if we could have fit it in the car on the way home we wouldn't have hesitated for a minute! Whilst there was just the two of us, we thought it would be an ideal place to come back to with both of our families, you really feel you could have great time no matter the size of your group. The location is brilliant, you feel like you only have to travel 20 minutes maximum to get to anything you could ever want, most of the time shorter - with Barnstaple being only 10 minutes away. Overall everything about the Lodge and Farm was special and we could not recommend it higher.

Our stay at Blackberry Lodge was just heaven!
Our stay at Blackberry Lodge (accommodation big enough for 4 people) was just heaven. We went with another couple and spent every day exploring North Devon and every evening in the hot tub followed by a snuggle on the sofa with a good film. Peter recommended some fantastic restaurants for evening meals but there were plenty of facilities to cook at the lodge too, with helpful cleaning bits provided like washing up liquid, dishwasher tabs and soap. It was a huge relief to be able to stay in lovely clean accommodation with our dog, and with the Tarka Trail on the doorstep we were not short on places to walk her closer to home if we didn't want to go further afield. We arrived to warm, home made bread and jam, and there was even a bottle of prosecco in the fridge which was a lovely surprise as we saw on the New Year during our stay. I will deffinately be returning as we had such a wonderful time for such a reasonable price. The beds and sofas were soooo comfy and the hot tub was just the best, we sat under the stars most nights and in sub zero temperatures we were toasty warm. Thank you for such a wonderful stay!

If you like walking, piece and quite, coastal or country side then this is the place to stay.
December 2016. We had a very relaxing 3 night break in Damson Lodge. Lovely lodge in a very quite location. On arrival found key left where we were told it would be so no waiting around for anyone to let us in. The heating was on and lodge warm and welcoming. Hot tub ready to use. Peter calling in shortly after arrival to check all was OK and a give useful information. If you like walking, piece and quite, coastal or country side then this is the place to stay. Enjoyed so much we plan to go back late February or early March 2017

We had a truly relaxing break away, Blackberry lodge was so clean and had fantastic facilities, the hot tub was a brilliant bonus for us and the bed was so comfy! . It was so easy for us to take the dog away with us too, Peter advised us on some days out to Braunton Burrows which was amazing we had the whole beach to our selves as well as places to eat and conveniently located close to restaurant and access to the Tarka trail , we will be rebooking again for next year

We were completely overwhelmed at the size of the lodge and just how beautiful and well set up they are!
We've just enjoyed a wonderful relaxing 3 night break in the Blackberry lodge for my fiancées birthday with our young dog. We were completely overwhelmed at the size of the lodge and just how beautiful and well set up they are. (Not to mention we were greeted by Peter with home made bread and marmalade which was gorge) All the amenities (inc. dishwasher) needed to comfortably live in and loads of lovely space. The cleanliness was amazing! Sofas and beds were ever so comfortable and the double walk in shower with huuuuuge shower head felt like a huge treat! We enjoyed the gorgeous large hot tub with a drink in hand watching the sunset from our own private deck surrounded by lush green countryside - definitely our favourite part. Peter gave us great recommendations and tips for things to do in the area with the dog. He recommended we visit braunton burrows a dog friendly beach just 15 minutes away which was absolutely lovely! We even let our pooch Teddy off the lead for the first time to enjoy the wonderful scenery! The location was great and close to convenience stores and restaurant/pubs - we didn't personally sample these as we aimed to relax but we wouldn't have had to do much research as there is a wonderfully detailed guest info book in the room personally recommending loads of near by eateries! We did have lunch from the Graylings fish and chip shop after the beach which was the nicest I've ever had! I only had the kids portion and it filled me up a treat! Overall a wonderful stay and many fond memories made! Thanks Mr & Mrs Day! We will definitely return!

Would we come back, definitely!
Great location, very peaceful, spotlessly clean. The bread and jam were delicious & lovely of Peter to introduce himself & check everything was OK. A couple of very minor criticisms, It would have been good to have separate towels for the hot tub plus some plastic glasses to use. Also a small pack of a few teabags, coffee, milk would have been appreciated, for a needed cuppa on arrival. The regular bus service was amazing, fish & chips from up the road, some of the best I have ever tasted. Would we come back, definitely!,. Already looking at next year, & bringing the family with us, to stay in the adjoining lodge. Tip- Blackberry lodge was very private & quiet, didn't even see our neighbours!

Our fourth stay in Blackberry Lodge and each stay seems better than the last!
Our fourth stay in Blackberry Lodge and each stay seems better than the last so we are planning our next visit as we sadly leave. We arrived late but the lodge was lit up ,warm and welcoming. The lodge is very clean, well equipped, the furniture so comfortable occasionally we fell asleep after long walks on the near by Tarka trail!!You're guaranteed a good night's sleep in a comfortable bed . There are photos on canvas of the local area that make you want to find those beaches and walk. The personal touches made the holiday, an extra dining chair for a visitor, fresh bread , still warm, and home made jam unlike anything you can buy. We've just had a fabulous stay that went far too quickly, thanks to Peter and Jayne who make you very welcome.

We stay in Damson lodge with our 4 dogs, an hour after we arrived Peter Day the owner came to welcome us and to see if we need any help with anything in the lodge. We stayed for four nights and we were very comfortable the hot tub was a great addition. There is a micro brewery on site which you can visit although I didn't get the chance. There are some great beaches within a short distance, these are great for the dogs. Framington quay tea rooms are worth a visit but be aware they do get busy. Plenty of shops within easy reach including a good fish and chip shop just up the road.

It was immaculate..
Really enjoyed our stay at Damson Lodge. It was immaculate and the facilities were very good, even a dishwasher and no shortage of kitchen utensils. We didn't use the hot tub provided.. but that was just our choice, it looked inviting. Our only criticism was the glass dining room table. Being square it was all too easy to catch oneself painfully on the corners which all three of us did as it was not easy to see the edges when walking past.

It was perfect for my holiday, and very cosy & homely.
I have just returned from a stay at the Damson lodge. It was perfect for my holiday, and very cosy & homely. It was central for where I wanted to visit in the area. The lodge had everything I wanted for my stay. The only thing I would say, is that a page is added to the Welcome folder on how to operate the heating and the white appliances, as I had to disturb Peter a few times because of this. I shall certainly return for another holiday. VJG & Truffles (my dog) f

If you want to make good use of the Tarka Trail and the immediate area around here including Clovely village and Saunton sands and the surprising Instow harbour town - coastal walks and enjoy relaxing in your own private hot tub (nude if you wish and as you should - but do let Peter know so he can ensure you get either Apple or Blackberry - so people aren't shocked by seeing naked people; no idea who they should be!) then this is rather good. It is located in a small Orchard with a few other cabins (total of 4) and to get to the Tarka trail you do have to go through the slightly industrial farm yard, but the benefits out way those minor negatives. Peter is very helpful and friendly, overall a great holiday - the Tarka trail south west is not to be missed a very enjoyable ride through coast areas, bridges, old canals, old stations (converted into cafes), woodlands and more. My only issue is I thought it would be more remote - down a track in the country side - but as I have said the convenience of being able to get on your bike from the cabin and a very short ride to get to the Tarka trail out weighs my normal wish to be remote.

Will definitely be visiting again.
Will definitely be visiting again.. It was all exactly how the photo's had portrayed it, inside and out. Spacious and comfortable, bathrooms and kitchen fittings are top standard and a joy to use. Our first morning breakfast of 'the bread and jam' was delicious, thank you. We so enjoyed the hot tub, a wonderful extra. The whole surrounding area is beautiful, we especially enjoyed Instow Beach and Appledore. Meals at the Instow Arms were delicious. Our only problem, which Peter couldn't have foreseen, is that we dare not risk our venturesome terrier off his lead in the paddock. We could hear chickens on the other side of the hedge and just know CHARLIE would push his way through the hedge. It didn't matter because we were able to walk him down to the Tarka Trail several times a day. The other two dogs, a Labrador and a poodle did enjoy the paddock. Peter is so welcoming and attentive without being intrusive. A lovely, lovely holiday. We hope to return.

The  Lodge was great.
We stayed at Apple Lodge for a week and the  Lodge was great, especially the hot tub as the weather was not good. The Bread and Jam was lovely and a nice thought to receive this when we arrived. The one problem we encountered was there was nowhere to dry clothes and towels. With the English weather and the Lodge being in the location it is, most people want to go for walks and drying the clothes and towels of eight people each day including those from using the hot tub became a real problem as it was to warm to put the heating on in August. Apart from this we had a lovely time, the fenced off garden area for our dog was a great idea as he was able to run free there without concerns of him getting out. If you want a holiday to take your dogs, you can't go wrong staying in one of Orchard Lodges. Would like to return again but hopefully with better weather.

This area is a hidden gem!
We all had a great week in beautiful Deven. This area is a hidden gem! Unspoilt beach at Instow, direct access to the tarka trail and convenient for exploring North Devon. There is great bus service 2 minutes walk away to all towns & villages. The lodge was to a very high standard, quality furniture ( really big comfy beds) the bbq and hot tub were fantastic ! Everything was spotlessly clean. You could watch beautiful sunsets from the outdoor area/hot tub. We hired a couple of bikes from Peter which was fun and you can hire bikes for children at Fremington quay or Barnstaple. Peter was really friendly and welcoming ( loved the fresh bread and jam) If I had to nitpick about anything I would say there was some noise in Damson lodge from the nearby road and a dog in the village but this is out of Peters control. Overall I would highly recommend this place to everyone and we would certainly come back but to Apple or Blackberry lodge so they were away from the road. Thank you Peter for a lovely holiday x x

What a lovely place! We had the best week
The kitchen was very well equipped for all our cooking needs. We loved the hot tub and the sofas were extremely comfortable for relaxing on too. Plenty of communication from the owner Peter who made us feel very welcome and we loved the fresh bread and jam on our first morning too, what a nice touch!

The lodge was immaculate and very spacious, perfect for a party of any size.

We stayed in Apple Lodge at Lower Yelland Farm for four nights as a family and had the most relaxed holiday thanks to the hospitality and comfort provided by Peter; we were even met with homemade bread and jam for our stay! The lodge was immaculate and very spacious, perfect for a party of any size. The hot tub and barbecue were a perfect way to unwind once the kids had gone to bed and we enjoyed many walks along the Tarka Trail as well as day trips to nearby beaches. Thank you so much and we'll be seeing you again!

The quality of the accommodation and the equipment and fittings inside the lodge meant we wanted for nothing.
We had an excellent week in the lodge. The quality of the accommodation and the equipment and fittings inside the lodge meant we wanted for nothing. (Except sunshine). Peter, the owner /our host was helpful and on hand if we were to need anything. Being greeted with a homemade, still warm, fresh loaf of bread and pot of jam was a delightful bonus as was the very private large decked area with hot-tub at the rear of the lodge. We would stay again if on holiday in that location and would recommend to our friends and family. Thank you for a very nice holiday.

Beautiful accommodation, clean and fresh.
This was a lovely place to stay. Beautiful accommodation, clean and fresh. We needed to be in town every day and the regular bus service was perfect for this. Had we wanted to go off to the sea and country side there was public transport to Bideford and Westward Ho and good roads to help us do this as well.

The lodge was so clean we wondered if we were the first people to stay there!
What a wonderful week we had at Orchard Lodges, we stayed in Damson Lodge with our two Border Terriers. The pictures do not do the lodges justice! So rare to find luxury accommodation when you have dogs. Everything was of the highest standard and I mean everything. The lodge was so clean we wondered if we were the first people to stay there, all credit to the cleaners. Location wise it is perfect for the beautiful beaches of North Devon, and only 200 meters to The Tarka Trail. The wild meadow was huge and fully enclosed for the dogs, which they loved. We loved the hot tub, was so welcome after long walks. Peter was lovely and very helpful, but not as lovely as the homemade bread and marmalade he kindly brought us on our first morning. Absolutely a 5* rating from us. See you next year Peter.

The lodge has been made to a high standard:
I stayed in Damson Lodge with my husband and puppy. Peter was very welcoming and was very knowledgeable about the area. The lodge has been made to a high standard: the layout was perfect, the furniture was comfortable and the hot tub was a lovely way to relax after a day of walking. The only downside was the heat at night as there wasn't any air conditioning.

We stayed in Blackberry lodge with my mum, daughter and our 3 dogs. Very clean and modern lodge with a private hot tub. We were welcomed by Peter with a loaf of fresh home baked bread and jam which was very welcome after our 6 hr journey. Very close to the tarka trail which is excellent for walkers or bikers. Close to local shops and supermarkets. Plus plenty of places to visit with or without dogs. Will definitely be booking again. Thanks Peter.

"Perfect"
Just got back from 4 nights in orchard lodge. Peter messaged us on our way down to tell us the lodge was ready early so we didn't have to wait for the normal 16:00 check in. When we did arrive the key is in a secure key box so no having to wait at a reception. To say the lodge was clean would be an understatement and be doing a mis-service to the cleaning team. The place was spotless! I have never stayed in anywhere as clean. Having dropped off our bags we drove the 10 mins to the supermarket to stock up and returned to find Peter waiting with a loaf of hot fresh bread and a pot of homemade jam...... just what was needed after a 4 hour drive. As for the accommodation it's self...... Could not have asked for more. Everything you need in your home from home. It was so relaxing we didn't want to come home, and neither did our two labs. It was the little things that made it. Dog owners will get this..... as you walk up to the front door on a nice slate chip path, there is a tap and hose to wash the dogs off before you get inside, so no salty muddy dogs having to be bundled on to the deck to be washed. Thanks again Peter for a wonderful few days. We WILL be back!

"Great few days away!"
We stayed in Apple Lodge for a long weekend, 6 of us and two dogs. The lodge was very spacious and had everything we needed. The hot tub was amazing and there was a gated area of grass for the dogs to go outside where we knew they would be safe. Lovely home made bread and jam for us when we arrived. There is a fish and chip shop and Chinese around a 5 minute drive away and a Morrison's about 10/15! Would definitely recommend Orchard Lodges and we will be returning. Thank you Peter!

Wow this is stunning
We have stayed in many 'dog friendly' lodges and this is the first one that is actually dog friendly. The gate on the decking into the huge enclosed play area for the dogs is fab meaning we can chill in the hot tub and the boys can play in the garden. Might of been good to have a little poo bin in the area as 3 big dogs is a lot of poop, rather than using the house bin. Lovely modern bbq which is a good family size at no extra charge.little things like dishwashing tablets for our stay, foil, ashtray, washing up liquid was great as we have been some places that didn't have the essentials. Would of been nice if there was a blue ray player for the rainy days but plenty to watch on free view so not a big deal. The lodge was spacious, you walk and and think wow this is stunning while still being dog friendly with hardwood floors for boys, lovely comfy sofas- we brought our sofa throws as my boys have to sit with mummy lol. And the heated towel rails was lovely when coming out of the lodge. There are lovely walks with the dogs right on the doorstep and Peter even went out of his way to show us a gorgeous beach which doesn't have many people and dogs there for our nervous Saint Bernard. The best thing is you are secluded but walking distance to the seafront for some lovely meals to have a few hours of an evening without the boys but they are also dog friendly just our saint isn't good with strangers, plenty of buses as well. Peter was fab start to finish answered any queries before we arrived. Greeted us on arrival with lovely homemade bread and jam and explained the area to us. We were left to our own devices yet Peter was never far away if any problems or questions. He really went the extra mile to make sure our stay was enjoyable. With all the lodges I have been too this is the first time I can hostels say we will be back again and recommend to everyone. The lodge and hot tub was luxurious yet practical for dogs at the same time, the hosts very helpful and welcoming, and it really was dog friendly. Only downfall was wifi wasn't working but that was a problem with company not Peter, yet Peter did say we could go down to the main house for internet if needed but my phone worked fine. Thank you Peter for a fantastic home from home :):):):)

We thoroughly enjoyed our break in Devon, it was great to be down out of season. The sun shone a couple of times which encouraged a quick dip in the hot tub. The only suggestion we would make was maybe some additional lighting in the parking area and the driveway which was rather dark when letting the dogs out. We did have a torch but unfortunately we dropped it! We loved the fresh bread and marmalade. I would be interested to have your receipe as I make my own bread too, All best Jo and Ian

Absolutely fantastic lodge finished to very high standard.
Stayed for weekend at Blackberry Lodge. Absolutely fantastic lodge finished to very high standard. Nothing has been overlooked, everything is provided for your convenience, we can't think of anything that wasn't there! Lovely hot tub and decking area too. Management very thoughtful and attentive even providing home baked bread & jam (thank you Peter!) It really is a beautiful lodge in an easily accessible yet private location. Our only regret was not booking to stay for longer, so we shall have to come back!

The log cabin's was fantastic!
The log cabin's was fantastic, the hot tub put the posh casa hotels to shame, was lovely and relaxing. We was so surprised with the facilities as we didn't expect them to be as good as they we're, everything you could have thought of was in there. Our only down side was that it rained a lot while we was there and the hot tub didn't have any cover we could put up. We couldn't find much to do in the area, but it was a lovely relaxing break, where we could just stay in and relax ??

Just had a perfect weekend in Blackberry Lodge.
Just had a perfect weekend in Blackberry Lodge. Very spacious, beds and sofas very comfortable and the kitchen has all the equipment you need. We walked from the lodge to Instow - easy flat walk - and got the bus back which stopped just round the corner from the lodge. The rest of the time we spent in the amazing hot tub. Owners couldn't have been more efficient or helpful. Can't recommend this highly enough.

We had a great week at Orchard Lodges, lovely location with easy access to the Tarka Trail and also the local bus service. Our lodge was spotlessly clean, warm, comfortable and very well equipped. Freshly home baked bread and Jayne's homemade jam on arrival was a lovely touch. Peter is very welcoming and friendly and sorted any issues we had very promptly. We will definitely return and will recommend highly to friends and family.

Wonderful week in your beautiful lodge.
My partner and I with our 2 teenage sons really enjoyed our stay in blackberry lodge. The hot tub was fantastic as our boys never came out of it. The lodge is beautiful comfortable and very well equipped with everything you need. The owner Peter was very welcoming and popped up a couple of times to check everything was ok for us, and gave us sound advice as to places to visit and eat. The best place we found for food here was the Westleigh Inn, fantastic food and reasonably priced. Will definitely be back again. Thanks Peter for a wonderful week in your beautiful lodge.

Excellent! I'm looking forward to going back !!
Excellent! From the moment we booked the lodge to leaving Peter was most helpful - fairy cakes waiting for us on our arrival and then warm home made bread and jam and a present under the tree! The lodge was well equipped and very clean - home away from home (and nicely decorated up for Christmas). The hot tub was a welcomed luxury on the day we walked into Instow in the rain but I can honestly say it was used every day and loved. We were a family party of 7 and 2 dogs and the lodge was plenty big enough for everyone. Also it is worth visiting the on-site brewery as the eccentric proprietor is very passionate about his produce but be prepared to come out a little tipsy!! I would highly recommend a holiday in these lodges - I'm looking forward to going back !!

Everything about the Lodge and Farm was special and we could not recommend it higher.
Myself and Partner stayed in Blackberry Lodge whilst staying at Lower Yelland Farm for a romantic weekend away for her 21st birthday. As soon as we arrived, we felt welcomed by Peter, who was very friendly. Once we stepped through the door of the lodge, we were blown away by the standard of the rooms. Peter had put up some banners in light of it being my partner's 21st, there was also some lovely homemade bread and jam, this was a very nice personal touch making us feel home away from home. We look forward to coming back in the very near future.

Coming back after a long walk to the hot tub was an added bonus, sipping champagne under the stars.
We stayed at Blackberry lodge following our wedding as a mid week break with our 2 dogs. The lodge was beautiful and well equipped, Peter the owner had even put up 'congratulations' banners and 'just married' confetti within the lodge, it was a lovely surprise and an unexpected touch to the start of our honeymoon. Our dogs enjoyed the various walks around the lodge, even though the weather wasn't on our side this particular week, the fresh air definitely did us all good! Coming back after a long walk to the hot tub was an added bonus, sipping champagne under the stars (in the rain) was an added bonus b We spent time exploring the little shops in the area and met some lovely locals and their dogs on Instow beach. We even took a day trip to westward ho! Which was lovely also. We enjoyed our trip and Peters hospitality was one of the best, he baked us a warm loaf of bread and some scrumptious jam and was on hand should we of needed him. I would definitely recommend this lodge to others. My only recommendation would be potentially a log fire in the winter months would be an advantage, despite this we had a very relaxing and stress free break. Thank you Claire & Scott x

The lodge is large , spotless, and tastefully decorated ,the kitchen has everything you need to prepare and cook a meal and is well stocked with crockery, the sofas are very comfy,as are the dining chairs. The beds are extremely comfortable and again the bedrooms are beautifully decorated and furnished. The bathrooms are spacious and have very good showers. This lodge has the wow factor. We have rented various lodges over the years but this one is the best by a mile - we won't go anywhere else now!
Have stayed here twice now for a girls' weekend and both times have been fantastic. The lodge is modern, clean, well equipped and spacious - the open plan seating/dining/kitchen area can easily accommodate 8 people. The hot tub is clean, well maintained and isn't overlooked. Overall, the lodge and patio area feels high end and well designed. Location wise, it's in a quiet area but in walking distance of the Tarka Trail and Instow, which offers a sandy beach and several pubs/restaurants. One of the cleanest holiday homes we've ever stayed in!
The hot tub went down a storm with everyone, especially the kids, and it was one of the cleanest holiday homes we've ever stayed in. The close proximity to the Tarka Trail was great for dog-walking and the hard (but not slippery) floors in the cabin was appreciated. We liked the 'natural' look at the rear of the property but shorter grass at the front would have made it easier for picking up dog waste. All in all, a very enjoyable holiday, thanks.

We had a lovely weekend, very well equipped, great location, tarka trail - great walking. local beach lovely. we would have liked a parasol over the outside table for when it was really hot and sunny and we would have liked to have let the dogs out into a fenced area first thing in the morning and last thing at night for a quick wee, rather than having to lead them up the track. other than that, there were only positive words exchanged between the family! we all had a great time (hot tub great addition) and will definitely return and recommend to others :-)

What a find!...
we have looked for a long time for self catering accommodation that caters for dogs in the Bideford area; generally easy to find but not to the standard that Orchard Lodges provide. We stayed in Blackberry which was fully equipped and was spotless; we arrived to a friendly welcome from Peter who provided home made bread and marmalade together with a host of useful information regarding the surrounding area. The hot tub was used everyday which relaxed the muscles after many long walks; we are already looking to book again later in the year. The 5/5 rating is well deserved.

The lodge is very clean and well presented with comfortable furniture and as others have said - the best beds ever! Everything you could need, like a home away from home with the added bonus of a very clean, warm hot tub on the not overlooked deck - the perfect way to unwind after a day walking the dog. The location is quiet with very easy access to lots of lovely beaches and walks and right on the Tarka Trail - on Peters recommendation we went to Braunton Burrows and it's well worth the visit and we were not disappointed. Peter is a lovely friendly host who brought us homemade bread and jam (delicious) and left ice cubes in the freezer (perfect for a V&T in the hot tub). If you are looking for somewhere to just chill and do nothing but relax or a base to explore the lovely North Devon countryside and beaches this is a place. Thank you Peter for being very friendly helpful and making us feel welcome. Very quiet and you are not over looked, only by horses. Any one looking for Chinese takeaway Fulham in Barnstaple excellent. Fish and chips just 1 mile up the road is Graylings, Whether you like Haddock or Cod both delicious. "You can't improve on a perfect stay..."
My girlfriend and l recently spent days in Blackberry Lodge, one of two log cabin style lodges in the grounds of Lower Yelland Farm. The lodge was modern, well decorated, fully kitted out in the kitchen and spotlessly clean. There is a private hot tub on a secluded deck at the rear of the accommodation which was aparticular highlight for us, being able to jump in with a G&T under the stars whenever we fancied. The location was great, very close to Barnstaple for bars and restaurants, and easy access to the Tarka Trail for cycling to Braunton and surrounding beaches.
The accommodation itself is only half the experience. The lodges are run by Peter who has hospitality down to an art. He was aware it was my birthday the day before we arrived, so we arrived to birthday banners in the lodge and a bottle of bubbly in the fridge! This was followed by fresh baked bread and jam from the farm, delivered by Peter in the morning.
All reviews need constructive criticism, so what can l say? ummm... The tea mugs aren't wide enough to dip a digestive in! that's all l can think of !
Thank you for a perfect mini break, we will definitely be back, and will likely bring others along!

Blackberry Lodge.
Really enjoyed the stay, would have been perfect if it hadn't have been for the boiler making a loud noise constantly all and night but got used to it in the end. Other than that cant complain, lovely lodge and setting and fresh bread and jam was a lovely unexpected bonus!

Thank you for your review and glad you both enjoyed your stay despite the noisy boiler. We are really sorry we were unable to have it repaired on Friday but we are pleased to say that the engineer came first thing Monday morning and it is now working as it should.

Just Great
Blackberry Lodge.
Stayed in many places in the area but this is best by a long way. Every thing just 1st class, from the welcome from Peter and Jayne to the level of facilities provided, if you are visiting on business or pleasure this is the place to stay.

Blackberry Lodge
I am feeling very cautious about giving a review for this wonderful location as I would rather try to keep it to myself, but having said that we went in February and even though there were signs of others staying we did not meet up with anyone. Our search started with inquiries about dog friendly accommodation and this came up in an area that we have been to and liked in the past when we used to tour in our caravan. It looked good on the website but it was nothing compared to what greeted us when we arrived. We arrived very early and were not expecting to settle in immediately so we took out two Dalmatians and Jack Russel for a wonderful walk on the beach at Instow. I left a message that we were in the area to the owner to which he replied , when he arrives back he will come over to the cabin to greet us, in the meantime to make ourselves at home, which we did. The place was a dream, 5 star accommodation, every last little thing was catered for even down to the warm welcome we received from our host Peter who came bearing gifts with a delicious newly baked loaf to get us started. We took advantage of the farmhouse breakfast that was on offered which kept us going until the evening meal. After a nice long exhausting walk with the dogs it was wonderful to slip into a steaming hot tub with a glass of wine and some chocolates, very decadent. Even though we were so close to the main road we never heard any noise, we could have been miles from anywhere and yet the Tarker Trail was on our doorstep, I cannot wait to get back there, wish I hadn't told so many

1st class accommodation
Recently stayed in Blackberry lodge. We stayed over the 5th of November so enjoyed a glass of wine in the hot tub, while watching the local fireworks! Only downside is that you would need to use a car or public transport to get your provisions. But once the shopping is done, is everything you would expect from 5 star accomodation. We left our dogs at home with relatives, but next time we will take them, they will love it!

New Years 2015!
A magnificent lodge which is beautifully decorated with all mod cons and hot tub overlooking stunning views of Devon. The owner was very accommodating and quick at responding to any queries I had. I went with 7 other friends and had the best new year!

New Years Break 2015
My partner and I, along with our dog, stayed at the blackberry lodge for 4 nights over new year. The lodge was very clean and the hot tub was fantastic! Peter the owner was brilliant and even brought us fresh bread, marmalade and a bottle of fizz on arrival! The lodge was nice and quiet and the hot tub was secluded, despite being next to the other lodge. Loads of lovely countryside around for long walks or bike rides. Very impressed and would definatley stay there again!

We stayed four fantastic days in the Apple Lodge... Eight of us altogether. We enjoyed the lovely welcome- freshly baked loaf, some frozen bits in the freezer in case we arrived late and fresh milk. Thanks again, we shall be back soon..!

Great week at Lower Yelland farm new lodges
Having previously stayed at the B&B we decided to have a week in one of the new lodges. What a fantastic place, very clean, tidy with all the mod con's you need for an easy life. The lodge it's self was very spacious with the added bonus of being able to relax in the 'Hot-tub' after a long walk down the Tarka Trail.
This was our third visit to 'Lower Yelland Farm' (1st time in a lodge) and as the previous visits Peter was very helpful & nothing was too much trouble.
We will be returning again with our family next spring/summer to stay in a lodge & will look forward to seeing the place when all the Plants are established.

Weekend break with kids
Just had lovely weekend with kids in Apple Lodge. All mod cons and new! Weather not great but took bikes on Tarka Trail and later good food at great local restaurant in Instow on sea front (The Boathouse). Hosts helpful and considerate giving us low down on local places to visit. Hot tub especially useful in pouring rain!! Hope to come back soon.

Fantastic, relaxing and accommodating!
We have just left from a lovely 4 night stay in the apple lodge on lower yelland farm. The accommodation is beautiful and modern whilst also being cosey and spacious. We brought our two dogs who were also made to feel welcome along with our one year old son. The owners even made up an extra bed for us as our son has troubles sleeping so shares a bed with his mother half way through the night. The accommodation is just a short drive from many places of interest and is right next to the tarka trail which is very scenic. The hot tub is a must and we enjoyed every evening having a relaxing soak! The owners are very pleasant and what was meant to be a three night stay for us ended up with us adding an extra night! Thank you to Peter and his wife for a lovely stay!
